New Jersey Marks One Year Until Census Day 2020

Acting Governor Sheila Oliver and Secretary of State Tahesha Way will join Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, school officials, and Newark’s Complete Count Committee on Monday, April 1, 2019 to kick off the state’s efforts to promote participation in Census 2020.

The event is one of several happening across New Jersey Monday as Complete Count Committees, formed to make sure all New Jersey residents are counted in the Census, highlight the importance of the count. The Census, held every 10 years as required by the U.S. Constitution, is used to determine how many Congressional representatives each state has, and how billions of dollars in federal funding is spent each year.

In Newark, Acting Governor Oliver and Secretary Way will visit Newark Arts High School and assist in awarding a scholarship to a student winner of Newark’s Census logo design contest.
