Statement by Governor Phil Murphy on Senator Vitale and Assemblywoman Quijano’s Legislation Extending Civil Statute of Limitations

TRENTON – Governor Phil Murphy today released the following statement expressing support for legislation sponsored by Senator Joe Vitale and Assemblywoman Annette Quijano extending the civil statute of limitations for victims of sexual assault:

"Victims of sexual abuse, especially those victimized in childhood, deserve to find doors held open for them as they seek justice against their abusers. I commend Senator Vitale and Assemblywoman Quijano for their dogged pursuit of legislation to extend the statute of limitations. I further commend the advocates, who want nothing more than be able to heal the wounds of abuse, for the tremendous strength they have shown.”
