01/15/2019

Governor Thanks Outgoing Chief of Staff Pete Cammarano for His Service and Contributions During First Year in Office

TRENTON – Governor Phil Murphy today announced that Kathleen Frangione, currently Chief Policy Advisor to the Governor, will serve as Acting Chief of Staff. Frangione will succeed outgoing Chief of Staff Pete Cammarano, who will transition back to the private sector and whose last day in the Governor’s Office will be today, Tuesday, January 15th. The Chief of Staff oversees all the workings of the Governor’s Office and the Executive Branch, including the Governor’s cabinet and agencies.

“I’d first like to thank Pete Cammarano for his years of service to the state of New Jersey and for making our first year in office such a success,” said Governor Murphy. “Under Pete’s leadership, we signed into law 169 bills, the most of any first-year New Jersey governor in over two decades. Few people have had the privilege of serving as Chief of Staff to one governor, let alone two. I have relied on Pete’s deep understanding of New Jersey’s governmental infrastructure and institutions, its localities, and the governorship and its power and responsibilities. I’m tremendously grateful for his dedication and service to this Administration, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

“I’m honored today to announce Kathleen Frangione as my Acting Chief of Staff. Kathleen brings a diverse array of experience to the role and has ably served as my top policy advisor for the past year. I value her counsel and management skills, and know she will serve the people of New Jersey well in her new role.”

“I’m honored to serve as Acting Chief of Staff to Governor Murphy as we continue building a stronger and fairer New Jersey for all,” said incoming Acting Chief of Staff Kathleen Frangione. “Over the past year, we’ve made tremendous progress passing the nation’s strongest equal pay law, increasing funding for our public schools, restoring funding for women’s health care, fixing NJ TRANSIT, promoting clean energy, strengthening our gun safety laws, and reigniting our innovation economy, among other achievements. Now, in year two, we must continue making New Jersey a better, more affordable place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Prior to serving as Chief Policy Advisor, Frangione worked in the Washington, DC, policy and political consultancy the Signal Group, where she was an Executive Vice President.

She previously served as Senior Policy Advisor on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee under then-Senator John Kerry, acting as lead staffer on climate change issues. She also was a legislative staffer in Kerry’s Senate office, overseeing domestic and international environment, energy, and natural resources issues.

Frangione is a graduate of Harvard College and holds a master’s degree from Yale University. A native of Rumson, she currently lives in her hometown with her husband and two children.

Frangione will assume responsibilities as Acting Chief of Staff on Wednesday, January 16th. Her salary will be $175,000/year.
