The purpose of the Pedestrian Safety Improvement Program is to reduce and eliminate pedestrian injuries and fatalities by minimizing motor vehicle/pedestrian conflict. The Pedestrian Safety Improvement Program is a data-driven program. Each location (intersection or roadway segment) will be identified through crash data and prioritized based on the frequency and severity of the crashes.

The program will provide for the development and implementation of several pedestrian safety elements at these locations. The safety improvements may include crosswalks, countdown pedestrian signal heads, sidewalks, curb ramps and high-intensity activated crosswalk beacons.
