Regulation and Enforcement

Cease and Desist Orders

In the interest of public health and safety, the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) may issue an order to cease and desist where a person, institution, agency, corporation or business concern is operating an MAV, BLS or ALS service without a license. NJDOH also may issue an order to cease and desist to anyone it has reason to believe is operating as an EMT or Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic who is not certified.

Monetary Penalties

In addition to annual licensing inspections, all licensed service providers and their vehicles are subject to random, unannounced inspections. NJDOH may issue a formal written warning to a certified individual or licensed service provider that has committed a violation which, while warranting some type of sanction, does not rise to the level of an action to suspend or revoke a certification or license.

Probationary Actions

In those instances where NJDOH has reason to question a licensed EMT's or Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic's clinical competence NJDOH may choose to impose a period of probation.
