Governor Phil Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the Choose New Jersey Delegation Attend Memorandum of Agreement Signings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan

Governor Murphy witnessed the signings of Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) between the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) and Taiwan; the New Jersey Board of Education (NJDOE) and Taiwan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the New Jersey Department of Banking (NJDOBI) and Insurance and the Financial Supervisory Commission of Taiwan. These agreements establish powerful economic trade partnerships and bilateral educational infrastructure. The MOU signed by the NJEDA and Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs prompted the formal promotion of bilateral trade, industry and investment collaboration, and supply chain diversification between New Jersey and Taiwan.

The MOU between the NJDOE and the Ministry of Education of Taiwan creates exchange opportunities for Chinese and English language teachers, in addition to the implementation of joint projects between institutions of both regions. The MOU signed between NJDOBI and the Financial Supervisory Commission of Taiwan will ensure that all non-public information shared between the two parties will be handled in accordance with all applicable confidentiality laws and regulations. 

Governor Phil Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the New Jersey Delegation Participate in SelectUSA Roundtable Discussion

Governor Murphy and the New Jersey delegation took part in a roundtable discussion to engage with leaders from Taiwanese companies spanning key industries interested in investing in the United States. The roundtable served as an opportunity for New Jersey to explore possibilities for cooperation and economic expansion with Taiwanese companies.  Jeffrey Dutton, Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, and Kenneth Chen, Commercial Specialist with U.S. Commercial Services in Taiwan, participated in the panel discussion along with Wesley Mathews, President and CEO of Choose New Jersey, and Tim Crouch, Chief Strategy Officer of Choose New Jersey.

Governor Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy met Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an, the 24th mayor of Taipei City since December 2022. This meeting signifies a vital step towards the strengthening of bonds between the city of Taipei and the state of New Jersey, establishing the potential for cooperation across various economic, social, and cultural sectors.

Governor Murphy and the New Jersey delegation witnessed the creation of academic partnerships between Rutgers University, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), and National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech). The agreement signed between Rutgers University and Taipei Tech formed a joint research initiative between the two universities, including dual degree and joint learning programs. Likewise, the partnership between NJIT and Taipei Tech established a collaborative research initiative focused on transformation in the applied sciences. 

The New Jersey Delegation Attends New Jersey Reception with the American Institute in Taiwan

The New Jersey delegation attended a reception with the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), an event aimed to augment economic and cultural ties between the delegation and key academic, public, and private sector leaders in Taiwan.
