Governor Murphy Orders Flags to Fly at Half-Staff for One Month in Remembrance of Lieutenant Governor Sheila Y. Oliver

Governor Phil Murphy ordered yesterday that U.S. and New Jersey flags fly at half-staff at all state buildings and facilities from Friday, August 4, 2023, through Monday, September 4, 2023, in recognition and remembrance of Lieutenant Governor Sheila Y. Oliver, who tragically passed away on August 1, 2023.

“Asking Sheila Oliver to be my running mate and partner in government was the best decision I ever made,” said Governor Murphy. “While Lieutenant Governor Oliver’s passing leaves a void in our state that can never truly be filled, she leaves behind a model of public service and integrity that serves as a template for us all. Tammy and I, and our children, are heartbroken, and our deepest sympathies and prayers remain with the Oliver family and all who knew and loved her. I am ordering our flags to fly at half-staff for the next month as all of New Jersey mourns her loss together. History will remember Lieutenant Governor Oliver as a trailblazer and an icon, and her memory and dedicated service to the people of our state will be an inspiration forever.”
