Video of the Ed Bogaert Memorial Reef

On August 8, 2008, the 34-ton Smoke II was deployed on the Sea Girt Reef as part of the state's Artificial Reef Program. The vessel, a 51-foot steel fire boat from the New York City Fire Department, is now the Ed Bogaert Memorial Reef providing habitat for marine life and a meaningful destination for divers.

Shortly after the vessel's deployment, Gary Szabo of Lost at Sea Films dove to the new reef and captured its silent beauty in a video now available on YouTube. After just 10 days on the sea floor it was already attracting fish and sea life was beginning to colonize its surfaces.
